The Transcantábrico Luxury Train

The Transcantábrico
|
Imagine a week traveling by luxuriously appointed train through the lush landscapes, olive groves, and majestic mountain ranges of the Green Coast punctuated with trips to picturesque fishing villages and the famed Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
The Transcantábrico, in operation since 1983, runs along Spain’s northern shore. The eight-day tours start in either the cathedral city of Santiago de Compostela, running east from Galicia, in Spain’s northwestern corner, or west from León, an historic inland city just 150 miles away. In between, each leg takes in the seaside towns of Vivero, Luarca, Oviedo, Gijón, the ancient farm village Santillana del Mar, and the Basque city of Bilbao, with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum. Side trips include a sail on a yacht in a Galician fjord and to the national park containing the snow-capped Picos de Europa.
